Merlin fandom is one of the strangest fandoms I’ve ever been in. Pretty much everyone in it agrees the show was on many levels terrible, and that the actors were amazing, and that the characters were utterly, completely captivating even when the writers were ruining them.
It’s like watching someone take the absolute best ingredients and make casserole with them and adding way too much salt, then covering the whole thing with ketchup, when the available ingredients included aged cheese, handmade pasta, lobster and fine wine. And they turned it into casserole, but we saw the ingredient list and were inspired.
